Calne leisure centre has undergone a major up-grade of its heating and hot water supply with two new Hargassner wood pellet boilers each rated at 170kW being installed. These replaced two older biomass boilers that had reliability and efficiency issues, so the centre was historically relying on an oil back up boiler.
With the new pellet boilers in place, the oil boiler has been disconnected from the system and will be removed in due course. The increase in boiler and system efficiency will be monitored and savings in pellet fuel usage and heating cost will be calculated over the first year
Other up-grades include the installation of the load cells on the pellet silos, giving accurate real-time readouts of pellet levels which helps coordinate pellet deliveries.
